The Best Laid Plans
Just when I had pretty much figured out what direction my life was going in, a spanner has been thrown into the works. I found out this week that the University where I desperately wanted to do my Masters, and had been been saving up for, has doubled its tuition fees. A few months ago they stated that their fees were fixed until 2013, but this is clearly no longer the case. I cannot afford the ridiculous amount they require, and I refuse to get into anymore student debt by getting a Career Development Loan. Naturally, I am feeling pretty devastated about it, but there is nothing else to do but accept it and move on.
It has, on the other hand, solidified some other plans for me. Now that I don’t have a Masters to save up for, I am able to do Trek America, which is a month long travelling from New York to LA. I am also going to have some other trips to places in Europe when work allows me to have time off. I have decided to just go to the places I want to, whether or not I have a travel buddy to join me.
I am really bored of Manchester these days and constantly find myself itching to move. I have a feeling pursuing a career in the media will most likely take me to London, which I have no problem with (other than the living cost). I would also like to live in Bristol, since the BBC is growing there and I just generally love that part of the UK. If all else fails, I will move to Chester where me and Louise can get a house and have our dogs. I hate uncertainty. I know life is meant to be full of it, but I just wish I had a magic ball that would tell me which path would make me the happiest. Pah! Anyway, career-wise, I am being held back by my lack of work experience within media companies. If I can get this, then I am one step closer to getting the kind of job I want.
